Feature and Self-Plug: Bird Song, a lovecraftian short-story

It had been a while since I penned anything about the Cthulhu Mythos that was not directly related to this blog, this had to change. In order to make that change, I sat down the last few weeks and penned a short story about an idea I had a while ago. The idea involved parallel dimensions and the dangers that come if you want to explore into completely unknown.
As the great master H.P. Lovecraft himself said:

[…] but some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new dark age.

And this is the premise of the story: A student and a postgrad dabble in some fringe area of physics and they find out things they were actually not looking for.
No, the story is not related to From Beyond, it has a similar theme but the premise of Bird Song is a different one and, spoiler alert, nobody starts having deforming mutations or something like that.
