Steampunk feels good (a happy rant)

Why do I like to be a steampunk /the Steampunk style…

Many reasons…

There’s the general feel of the era to which it historically corresponds (this applies less to Dieselpunk. As we all know, the 1920s to 1960s were not that great a time for humankind). Also, I like the dresscode of both eras, Steampunk and Dieselpunk.

I prefer suits to denims, shirts to jumpers and so on…

Also, I like the attitude, comming out of the Goth scene I have met many a Goth who joined to be romantically depressed, be a rebel and  a lot of other stereotypical reasons which are sort of irritating. Especially this depressing aspect does not apply to Steampunk at all. Actually, you get all the good bits of the Goth scene without any of the bad stereotypes. You can wear marvelous outfits, revel in poetry and the like plus: You get the lust for life, trust me, it’s contagious.

There’s a lot of creativity in the Steampunk scene, all this tinkering which I have tackled on my page and on this blog, it goes far further than in other subcultures that I am aware of and which is not directly concerned with technology.

There is also a lot of science related weirdness, very tongue-in-cheek, and I am not the only Steampunk with his own blog who is also interested in Transhumanism.

Steampunk is, propably as a result of its literary genesis, very much concerned with explorations, even if nowadays also more in the forms of literary works than actual explorations, although I try to incorporate some “expeditions” in my blog.

I find Steampunk to give my life a slightly romantic touch, some added weirdness, a lot to think about and some hitherto unexpected ways to be creative. Steampunk, I say it again, also goes well with all sciences, which are also a leisure time interest of mine. So, all in all and all things considered: Steampunk feels good!
