Lady Mechanika

Famed comic artist Joe Benitez who has worked on such titles as JLA, Superman/Batman and Titans for DC Comics and titles like The Darkness and Weapon  Zero for Image Comics is currently working on a new and singularly interesting series of comics, Lady Mechanika. Credit for the discovery goes to my friends over at Clockworker, a cover appeared in their Tumblr stream.

Joe Benitez’ site has the following to say about Lady Mechanika:

The tabloids dubbed her “Lady Mechanika”, the sole survivor of a psychotic serial killer’s three-year rampage through London. Authorities found her locked in an abandoned laboratory amidst an undeterminable number of corpses and body parts, her own limbs having been amputated and replaced with mechanical components.

With no memory of her captivity or her former life, Mechanika eventually built a new life for herself as a private detective, using her unique abilities to solve cases the police couldn’t or wouldn’t handle. But she never stopped searching for the answers to her own past.

Set in turn of the century England, a time when magic and superstition clashed with new scientific discoveries and inventions, Lady Mechanika is about a young woman’s search for her own identity as she solves other mysteries involving science and the supernatural.

Written and illustrated by Joe Benitez with colors by Peter Steigerwald. Debuting Fall 2010 through Aspen Comics.

Very intriguing! I hope my favorite comic store will stock those… It’s been a while since I collected a complete comic series. Sandman and spin-offs were actually the last.

So, I am looking forward to the release of Lady Mechanika and in the meantime, I will feast my eyes on the beautiful art already available for admiration:
