"Steampunk" is now an entry in the dictionary
I guess we can now once and for all settle the debate, whether or not Steampunk has entered the mainstream.
As time.com reported yesterday, Steampunk is now officially a word listed in the Merriam-Webster dictionary.
A quick search in the online version of Merriam-Webster confirms the article: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/steampunk
Excerpt:
Definition of STEAMPUNK
: science fiction dealing with 19th-century societies dominated by historical or imagined steam-powered technologyOrigin of STEAMPUNK
1steam + cyberpunk
First Known Use: 1987
Although I miss a reference to the subculture aspect of Steampunk in the definition, I guess there is only so much you can do in one short sentence, but finding Steampunk in a renowned dictionary now, pleases me quite a bit.
